Hale Pet Door - Screen Mounted Dog and Cat Door
Hale Pet Doors are the leading manufacturer in premium Dog and Cat Doors and are designed to last a lifetime. Don't waste your money on cheap imitations that will need to be replaced after only a few months of use.
Screen Door Model Pet Door is designed to be installed in sliding screen doors and some screen windows. Hale screen doors are a much sturdier choice than other brands because our novel design attaches to the frame around the screen (Other brands of pet doors attach only to the screen mesh fabric.) and our flaps and weatherstripping make the Hale Screen Model more "bug-proof" than other doors. Screen doors come standard 1 flap and no security cover.
Made in the USA and comes with a 5-year factory warranty.
Note: Most screen doors or screen windows have the mesh and screen spline on the interior side of the door or window frame. Our screen model will work whether your screen is on the inside or the outside of the frame. However, if your frame is more than 1/2" wide, we will need to know that information to send you our universal screen model.
*This door can ONLY be installed in a Screen Door, here are our other door models:
Options:
- Flap Size: The Door Model is available in 12 standard sizes shown in the chart below. For detailed sizing instructions, please see "Sizing Guide" tab at the top. Flap is made of flexible clear PVC material, 3/16" thick.
- Frame Color: Arizona Beige -- hard coat paint, looks like coffee with a couple of creamers added. Brushed Aluminum -- anodized metal, satin nickel color, looks like the bottom of a Coke can. Dark Bronze -- anodized metal, chocolate brown, looks almost black in dimmer light. White -- white hard coat paint
- Frame Thickness: Our standard screen model is designed to work with screen door or screen window frames up to 1/2" thick. If your screen door or screen window frame is thicker than 1/2", we can provide you with our universal screen pet door to work in this situation. NOTE: Most screen doors are now over 1/2" thick (usually at least 5/8") and an unmodified pet door WILL NOT work with them. Please double check your measurements if you choose up to 1/2" thick to verify.
- Stabilizer Bar Kit: For our screen model pet doors, Size Tall Large and above, we recommend adding the optional Stabilizer Bar Kit for additional stability for your pet door and people door alike. This stabilizing bar can be added to your people door directly above the pet door for added strength.
- Training Flap: The training flap is made of a similar material to our regular flap but it has no strikes and has been vertically slashed several times to make it very easy to push through. It does not, however, provide the energy efficiency of our regular flap and should only be used until your pet is used to using the door.

How to Measure Your Pet
There are three measurements to take into consideration when choosing the correct size door for your pet, the following guidelines will help you get accurate measurements. If you get stuck or need any help please contact us, our experts are ready to help.
#1 - Measure Width – Simply measure your pet at the widest point and add an inch or two for safety. If your pet is long-haired, don’t forget that this may make them appear wider than they really are. Alternately, you can open a door just wide enough for your pet to pass through and measure the width of the opening, again adding an inch or two for safety.
#2 - Measure Height – The pet door flaps should be at least an inch or two above the top of your pet’s back not the head. To get this length, measure your pet from the withers (top of the shoulders) to the floor. Remember that your door won’t be placed completely at floor level.
#3 - Measure Rise – This measurement is only applicable for panel models which come with the rise built in. Door, wall, screen, and window models can be mounted at whatever height is comfortable for your pet. If you have a short-legged dog or an older dog that can’t lift his feet very high, or if the door is installed with a step on either side, consider ordering a “no rise” door. Our standard rise is 5” or 10”.
Alternate method: You can also make a sample door opening out of a large piece of cardboard based on the above size chart. Place it in a door opening and experiment with height placement. Order the size most comfortable for your pet.

Other Considerations for Choosing the Correct Door Size
Older pets don’t like to use pet doors that are uncomfortable. Make sure you get a door that your pet will always be able to use. If you currently have a kitten or puppy, remember that they will grow.
Mount the pet door so that it is low enough for your pet to comfortably step over. Young pets can raise their legs up to their chest but older pets may have trouble with this.
Make sure the pet door is tall enough for your pet. Hunching over can be hard on your pet’s hips, especially as they age. And the flaps on your door will last longer if your pet isn’t rubbing against the top of the door as he passes through.
If you have more than one pet, make sure you get a door that will work for all of them: low enough for the shortest one to step over but tall enough for the tallest one to fit through comfortably.
Don’t forget that your pet needs access from both sides of your pet door. If you are installing the door in an area that has steps outside, please take into consideration how your pet will have to get through the door. This is especially true of our panel models. They have a standard rise of 5” but can be ordered with no rise (actually about 1” of frame to step over) instead to make it easier for your pet.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Why do Hale Pet Doors cost more than other brands?
Hale pet doors are made with the highest quality workmanship and of the finest materials available. We use only extruded aluminum framing, pvc vinyl flaps and King Starboard® security covers. Because these materials are superior, the pet doors are much heavier for greater strength and durability.
What is the difference between Single and Double flaps?
Double flap mounts increase resistance to extreme weather. These are great options for blazing summer and snowy winters. While a Hale single flap can do the job of some double flap models, the additional vinyl can safeguard from wind and single-digit temperatures.
Can I lock my pet door?
Absolutely. All of our pet doors (except the screen model) come standard with a King Starboard® security cover. Starboard is manufactured for marine applications and is virtually indestructible. This cover can be locked into place with our steel positive action pin lock to make your pet door virtually impregnable.
What prevents insects, rodents or other animals from getting inside?
Hale pet doors are designed to seal very tightly. We use heavy pile weather stripping and strong alnico magnets. Therefore, insects and small animals cannot push their way in through the pet door. Since the flaps are also sealed and do not hang open, larger animals do not see an opening to get started. Most animals need a little conditioning to get used to using a pet door and won’t push against something that isn’t already open. We recommend keeping all food and water away from the area of the pet door, either inside or outside the house, so unwanted animals are not even attracted to the area in the first place. If you have further security or animal intrusion concerns, we offer a full line of security products to complement our pet doors.
Can I add or remove magnets?
Yes, you can attach and remove magnets. Removing magnets makes it easier for smaller pets to push through. With a screwdriver head, you can push the magnets off the flap. Adding magnets is a great way to combat weather as well.
Do I install my pet door by myself?
With their self-framing design, our pet doors are designed to be extremely easy to install. If you have a basic working knowledge of power tools and home repairs, our doors can easily be installed in most applications by any do-it-yourselfer. We have also provided installation instructions for download on this website and we have experienced technicians available for free telephone consultation if desired. Of course, if you don’t want to install your own pet door, we have a large network of franchises and dealers across the country who would be happy to assist you. Feel free to contact us for a reference.
How do I install the carpet for this door?
First, measure and trim the carpet to match your tunnel's width. You can use common construction glue to keep the carpet in place. Then, you can apply the adhesive to firmly lock the carpet against the tunnel.
How do I adjust the tunnel sleeve length to fit my wall length?
The tunnel sleeve is made of aluminum, and will either be 10" or 16" in length. Once you measure the exact length of your wall, you will then have to cut the aluminum with metal snips according to size. You can discard the extra material left over.
Our boxer has run through our screen door 2x, so it was time to get a dog door for the screen. The door arrived about 6 days later, and only took about 15 minutes to install. It had really good directions with it that were clear and really easy to follow, made the job easy. Now that it's installed it feels sturdy...the best part is the dog has taken to it no problem....even at high speed. Really glad we made the decision to go with the dog door, absolutely recommend this door to anyone!
My large, tall door works very well for my 80 pound Standard Poodle. It is sturdy and well made. However, the stability bar recommended for use with a door of this size is less than satisfactory—the end clips are cheaply made and both of them broke while being inserted into the ends of the bar. Recommend either stronger end clips or a totally different installation system.
The instructions don't line up with what was sent.
I've been contact, sent photos. They ask for my phone number and I have not heard back.
For 200+. This should work and I'd like a refund.
Had the Hale Dog Screen installed and am very pleased. Materials are sturdy and well built. I had the Training door installed first to get my dogs used to it and so far so good. Would highly recommend
